Sony Xperia P & Xperia U UK Release Date Slated For May 28th, Prices Revealed

Both Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia U have been confirmed for release in the UK starting May 28th Monday as confirmed by Clove UK in a blog posted today. In the post, Clove said that they just received an update from Sony confirming the shipment of the devices. Both Xperia P and Xperia U are a part of Sony’s NXT series and follow on from Xperia S. These devices are packaged in cases with sleeker designs and given powerful specs so as to become more competitive in the current cutthroat market.

Sony Xperia P

Reports indicate that Sony Xperia P will be marketed for £275.00 price when released next month. It is Sony’s entry to the mid-range market and will competing with entries from major manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc. It will come with a dual-core STE U8500 chipset processing unit clocked at 1 GHz frequency. A graphics processing unit (GPU) in the form of DB8500 also comes together with the CPU which is essential to power Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine that will also be featured in this device. It also has a considerably higher resolution at 540 x 960 pixels stretch on a 4-inch display featuring LED-backlit LCD.

While it was given a generous 1 GB random access memory (RAM), it only has 16 GB of built-in storage and just 13 GB of it can be used by the user. It does not support a microSD slot so you will have to learn how to minimize the use of your storage space. It can shoot a full HD 1080@30fps video using its 8-megapixel camera with LED flash. For a device as powerful as this, a 1305 mAh battery is not enough to keep it powered up for hours. In fact, it can only stay up for 4 to 5 hours of straight talk time on a 3G network. One of the downside of this device is the fact that it will be operating on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Sony Xperia U

Sony Xperia U will come at a price of £170, way cheaper that Xperia P and anyone knows why. While we expect there would be a huge difference when it comes to the specs, we are actually wrong because it sport the same CPU and GPU. Thus, when it comes to processing capabilities for both commands and videos, Xperia U couldn’t be left behind by the other. The difference enters when we talk of the RAM because this device will be getting just half of it. However, you should know that a 512 MB RAM is more than enough for a 1 GHz CPU. In fact, it has the ideal amount of RAM to perform smoother.

For £170, you will be getting 4 GB of built-in memory, no microSD card slot and a bit smaller device with 3.5 inches of display, although it also features the same display capabilities as with Xperia P. It is a big as Apple’s iPhone but has lower resolution at 480 x 854 pixels. It also has the same battery as with the other so you can expect almost the same uptime. This entry-level phone will also be tested when released on May 28th because it will be released under a category where other manufacturers already claimed dominance.
