How To Install Unofficial CyanogenMod9 (CM9) ROM on HTC Amaze 4G

Your HTC Amaze 4G smartphone may be upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But if you want to try a different kind of ROM, you can always opt for the unofficial version of CyanogenMod9 and you will be able to get a lot of options for customization. So, if you want to know the steps on how to apply this firmware to your phone – read on.

Disclaimer:

This is not the official and final build of CyanogenMod9 (CM9) for HTC Amaze 4G. This ROM is a preview version and may not be used as a daily driver. Do expect some issues related to GSM, Camera, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection. Just don’t blame us for any damages that could happen to your phone. There is also a possibility for your handset to be bricked and you will eventually lose your phone’s warranty. Therefore, follow this guide at your own risk. Do not even attempt to install this ROM on any other smartphones aside from the HTC Amaze 4G.

Reminders & Requirements:

-> You need to provide a rooted HTC Amaze 4G smartphone with S-Off and ClockworkMod Recovery.

-> We recommend that you create a backup of your important files such as your music, videos, photos, phone contacts, SMS messages and call logs.

-> Check your phone’s battery. Make sure that its battery level won’t go any lower than 80 percent. Better yet, make sure that it’s fully charged.

-> Make sure that you have installed the necessary USB drivers on your Windows-based computer. (If applicable)

-> Download the following source files: (Save to your computer)

— Unofficial CyanogenMod9 Zip Package for HTC Amaze 4G
— Boot.img for the ROM
— Google Apps Zip Package

Instructions:

Step 1: Copy the CM9 Zip Package for HTC Amaze 4G and place it on the root directory of your phone’s SD card.

Step 2: On your computer, extract the ADB and fastboot files and save to a specific folder. Copy the boot.img file then place it on the same folder.

Step 3: Once you’re done, you need to connect your phone to your computer via USB data cable.

Step 4: On your computer, open the command prompt and change the directory to where you have placed your ADB and fastboot files. For Windows users, just double-click on the commandprompt.bat file that you will see on the said folder.

Step 5: Reboot your device to bootloader mode. You can do so by typing ‘adb reboot-bootloader’ on the command prompt window sans the quotes. You will then see the HBOOT screen on your phone.

Step 6: Again, on your command prompt window, key in ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’. Wait for the flashing process to complete. Once done, set your device to recovery mode. You can do this by going to the FASTBOOT USB menu. Select ‘Bootloader’ then ‘Recovery’. You will then see a red warning triangle. Press the Volume Up and Power button to go to go the menu for recovery.

Step 7: In recovery mode, create a Nandroid backup of your current ROM. Do this by selecting the option for ‘Backup’ on Backup and Restore. Once done, select ‘wipe data / factory reset’ then ‘wipe cache’.

Step 8: Select ‘install zip from sd card’ then ‘choose zip from sd card’. Locate and select the CM9 File that you have placed on your phone’s SD card storage. Repeat this step but instead of flashing the CM9 File, flash the Google Apps Package. Wait until the update process is complete. Select ‘Go Back’ then ‘Reboot System Now’ to reboot your HTC Amaze 4G.
