Step 1: Create a backup of your important data such as your phone’s SMS Messages, Contacts, Call Logs, Images, Documents and Videos.

Step 2: Check your HTC Desire HD’s battery level. Your phone’s battery must not go any lower than 60 percent. This is to avoid any power interruptions during the update process.

Step 3: Enable your phone’s USB Debugging option by going to Settings > Applications > Development. Check the box next to the USB Debugging option. We also recommend that you deactivate your computer’s firewall. The same goes for your phone’s security options.

Step 4: To update your HTC Desire HD to Sense Laced Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, download the Firmware Package at this link and save to your computer. Once done, connect your smartphone to your computer via USB data cable.

Step 5: Wait until your phone gets recognized then copy the downloaded file to your device. It would be best if you can save the file to the root directory of your phone’s micro SD card. Do not rename the file. Save it as it is.

Step 6: Remove your phone from your computer. Turn it off then boot to recovery mode. You can do this by pressing the Volume Down key while holding the Power button. You will then see a menu. Choose ‘Recovery’ from the list of options.

Step 7: In recovery mode, press the Volume Down key to select the ‘clear storage’ option. This will clear all the cached data in your phone. After you have done so, select ‘install zip from sd card’ then ‘choose zip from sd card’. Locate and select the Sense Laced Android 4.0.3 Firmware for HTC Desire HD.

Step 8: The installation will not take any longer than 10 minutes. Once done, your HTC Desire HD smartphone will automatically boot to recovery mode. Using your volume rocker and power button, select ‘++++ Go Back ++++’ then choose ‘reboot system now’ to reboot your handset to normal mode.

That’s it! You may check your firmware version by going to Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version. By then, you will know if you have successfully updated your HTC Desire HD’s firmware to Sense Laced Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
