If you’re an avid gamer or a member of an MMO guild, you’ve probably lamented the fact that there’s no easy way to get into contact with guild members outside of logging into your computer and onto the guild’s voice chat server. Ventrilo and TeamSpeak are both popular amongst gamers, but TeamSpeak has moved one step ahead by offering its new Android app which is compatible with TeamSpeak 3.
The new TeamSpeak application functions just like TeamSpeak on the PC, by allowing you to enter your guild’s server information and login to begin chatting. You’ll see the standard server list with all of the rooms, including the people who are in each room. From there, you can tap to join a room and when you want to speak, you just hold the microphone button.
TeamSpeak’s availability on Android ushers in a new era of online gaming, where it’s no longer necessary to have your guild mates cell phone numbers in order to text them in case you’ll be late for the raid. Instead, gamers will be able to log in, let the group know what’s up, and if possible hang around while the guild completes the run without you.
Of course, there are always a few ramifications for using such a data intensive app. For those who are on capped data plans, transmitting data across the 3G/4G network uses quite a bit of bandwidth. The application is great for alerting guild members to your absence, but don’t expect to be able to use it daily without incurring heavy data charges.
As for the quality of the application? That depends highly on your connection at the time. Wifi connected users will experience better quality than those on 3G/4G service, but for its intended purpose, this application is decidedly decent for the price of free.
