Owners of Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro Android smartphone can now enjoy the flexibility and full functionality of the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) as Sony releases the official firmware just recently. There are several custom ROMs available for the device but it you want your device to run the official firmware, you might want to consider updating it with the help of the tutorial below. For some who already have vast experiences as far as manual updating is concerned, the steps below may be just another easy process to perform. Moreover, this tutorial is for those who haven’t received the official update over the air. Before you actually proceed with the process, make sure to check the pre-requisites after the break.
A. It is always advisable to back up all your data especially the important files you saved in your internal memory. While the update process is definitely safer than you think, we cannot guarantee things will go the way we want them to be. There are apps from the Google Play Store you can use to automate and make the backup process easier.
B. Check if you have installed the latest version of Sony PC Companion in your computer to make sure you have all the necessary drivers for stable detection of your device.
C. Check if you have at least 60% battery power to make sure you will not run out of power during process. There have been reported cases that phones become inoperable due to power loss during update.
D. Enable USB Debugging in your Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro and check if all your USB ports are active or at least, make sure you are using the active one.
E. Get and install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) from Android.com.
F. If you are using a custom ROM, put your device into Recovery Mode and clear all data and wipe cache, you need to do this to make sure your data will not be corrupt after the update.
Step 1: Download the Official Android 4.0.4 ICS package on your computer and extract it to a directory you can easily find and access.
Step 2: Download Flash Tool installer and install it to your computer.
Step 3: From the directory where you’ve extracted the ICS package, look for the tft file and put it in the following directory in your computer: C:/Drive > flashtool > firmwares >. After doing so, run the Flash Tool.
Step 4: Click on File Option then Flash Mode and click on OK. After which, you need to tick Wipe User Data and Wipe Cache options then click on OK button to proceed.
Step 5: Now wait until the process is done; you will be notified that both User Data and Cache have been wiped out.
So far, this is the entirety of the update process and if everything goes well after doing the steps above, you can immediately enjoy your device. However, if your data gets corrupted or lost, you can easily restore them. In case your device refuses to boot, just follow the same steps.
