Nook Color Tablet: Install Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) With CyanofenMod 9

As you may or may not be aware, the Android development community as a whole are not exactly a patient bunch. Therefore even though the Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich is not yet officially compatible with the Nook Color, it is possible for you to install a preview of the 4.0.1 ICS courtesy of a CyanofenMod9.

Now much like any CyanogenMod9 build, the install is not something that you should attempt without a little bit of tech know how but I have outlined below a relatively straight forward tutorial containing the key steps to fitting out your Nook Color with most of the fancy functionality of the Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Now note that I used the word “most” as there are still a few features missing but the latest release is certainly the best that you can currently get and well worth the install for anyone keen on the latest developments in the world of ICS.

Requirements:

The requirements for following the below steps are also relatively minor in that you simply require both privileged access (you will need to root your device) and have previously installed flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Provided your device meets these requirements, you are ready to proceed.

Instructions:

Step 1: The first step is to download the CyanogenMod 9 ICS ROM to your computer.

Step 2: You will then need to transfer it to the root of your devices SD card.

Step 3: Next boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. At this point it can certainly make a lot of sense to back up the current state of your Nook Color so that you can revert back should you find the current CyanogenMod build less than satisfactory.

Step 4: Then still within ClockworkMod Recovery, select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset”.

Step 5: Finally to actually flash the ICS ROM from Step One, you will first need to navigate to it. This can be achieved by selecting “Install ZIP from SD Card” followed by “Choose ZIP from SD Card” and finally selecting the ZIP file itself.

Step 6: Once that process has completed, the final step is to simply reboot your Nook Color and restart your device. Provided you have followed all of the steps correctly, you will now have access to a Nook Color with almost all of the functionality of the genuine Android ICS 4.0.
