Did you just upgrade your Motorola XOOM’s firmware to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich? Then, it is very likely that your slate have lost its root access. Thus, in this post, we will teach you how to root and install the ClockworkMod Recovery tool on your tablet that’s now running on Android ICS.
Like we always tell you, follow this guide at your own risk. Do not blame us in case you get your phone bricked. Also, don’t be too surprised if you void your phone’s warranty. Moving on, here’s a list of things that you need to comply before you proceed.
- Install the Android Debug Bridge to your PC by following the steps given in this link.
- You will be required to have the fastboot.exe. You can download the file from here.
- You must have the ClockworkMod Recovery Image and Rooting Files for your Motorola XOOM slate.
Step 1: Download the Motorola XOOM Rooting Package and save to the root directory of your slate’s SD card storage.
Step 2: Download the ClockworkMod Recovery Image at this link and save to your PC. Rename the file as “recovery.img” sans the quotes.
Step 3: Copy the “recovery.img” file into the folder where the adb.exe and fastboot.exe are both saved. Once done, turn off your Motorola XOOM tablet.
Step 4: Reboot your slate to fastboot mode by holding the Volume Down key while pressing the Power button. In fastboot mode, connect the tablet to your computer using a USB cable.
Step 5: Open the command prompt on the directory where the fastboot.exe and adb.exe are located. To do so, hold the shift key then right-click on the said folder then click on “Open Command Prompt Here”.
Step 6: Type “fastboot flash recovery.img” (without the quotes) on the command prompt window then press the Enter key.
Step 7: See to it that the recovery image has been flashed successfully. To do so, turn off your tablet then turn it on. Once you see the Motorola Dual Core boot screen, press the Volume Down key repetitively until you see the “Android Recovery”. Press the Volume Up key to boot to recovery mode.
Step 8: In Recovery Mode, create a nandroid backup then root your device by flashing the files in recovery mode.
Step 9: Select “Install ZIP from sd card” then “Choose ZIP from sd card” and select “su-install.zip” from the root directory of your slate’s SD card. Wait until done.
Step 10: Reboot your Motorola XOOM tablet to normal mode. That’s it!
