If you’re here, then we presume that you want to install the new Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich on your HTC Incredible S. But before we tell you how, you have to keep in mind that this process won’t get you the official update. This is a port created by nikhil007mmus of the XDA Developers Community and is pretty much at its early stage.
Even so, do expect that all the basic features are working. The ICS ROM is stable enough to be used as a daily driver but be wary that there are certain features that you simply cannot use. Thus, you won’t be able to use your camera, USB tethering, tethering, hardware video acceleration and UMS. You are also required to have a rooted HTC Incredible S with S-Off. If you’re all set, read on.
Step 1: Make sure that you have the ClockworkMod Recovery installed.
Step 2: Download the latest ICS ROM for the HTC Incredible S and save to your computer.
Step 3: Connect your phone to your computer using a USB data cable.
Step 4: Copy the downloaded file to the root directory of your phone’s SD card.
Step 5: Boot your device to Recovery Mode. You can do this by holding your phone’s Volume Up and Volume Down keys while pressing the Power button.
Step 6: In Recovery Mode, create a Nandroid backup. This comes pretty handy especially when you encounter some failures during installation. The backup will restore your phone’s functional ROM.
Step 7: Select “Wipe Data / Factory Reset” then select “Wipe Cache” and “Wipe Dalvik Cache”.
Step 8: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card”. Locate and select the file that you have copied and saved in the root directory of your phone’s SD card.
Step 9: Wait until the installation completes. This won’t get any longer than 10 minutes.
Step 10: Reboot your HTC Incredible S smartphone.
That’s it! If you didn’t encounter any problems, then your device is now running on Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich. Enjoy.
