Google announced they will delay the release of their new Android operating platform, Ice Cream Sandwich (Google Android 4.0x) out of respect for the October 5, 2011 passing away of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, but that hasn’t lessened the public’s anticipation for the new system. The official release date of Ice cream sandwich is currently unknown but according to reports from Android Police, new leaked information shows that several apps included with the system are the new Google + and Google Music. The first smartphone to feature Ice Cream Sandwich is the Nexus Prime and new leaked photos reveal some of the newest apps.
According to Android Police, the apps appear to be similar to those in the Android Marketplace, however, upon closer examination, it is clear that there are many differences. When comparing the Google + application you’ll see that the messenger portion is referred to as “chords.”
As no one know when Ice Cream Sandwich will be released, its full capabilities and specs remain unknown. Exactly what and how many apps will be included with Nexus Prime remains a mystery as well. Additionally, out of respect for the passing of Apple CEO, the previously planned joint announcement by Google and Samsun where they were to announce the new Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich has been postponed.
Samsung released a statement through their blog, that states, “Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11.
“ Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We ask for your understanding regarding any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.”
