In case you’re still waiting for the official Android 4.0.3 ICS ST18i_4.1.A.0.562 firmware to be delivered to your Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V, you can opt to manually update your phone just by following a series of steps. Do keep in mind that this is the official firmware and can therefore be used by global users. Just do not apply this firmware on the carrier-locked version of the said handset.

Xperia Neo V

Pre-Requisites:

–> Create a backup of your phone’s important data such as your SMS messages, call logs, phone contacts, images, music files, documents and videos.

–> Check your phone’s battery. Make sure that its power level won’t go any lower than 80 percent to avoid any unnecessary power interruptions. Better yet, make sure that your phone’s fully charged.

–> Disable all Anti-Virus and Security suites on your computer. These types of programs could hinder the update process. Do the same on your smartphone (if applicable).

–> Enable your phone’s USB Debugging mode by going to Settings > Applications > Development. Check the box next to the USB Debugging option.

–> For users with custom ROMs, you need to clear the cache and wipe the data via recovery mode. You also need to disable lag fixes to avoid errors during the installation.

Instructions:

Step 1: Get the download links for Flash Tool and Update File from this link. Extract the Zip file to view the download links.

Step 2: Click and rename the Update File as “C”. Extract the contents of the said file and save to “C:/flashtool”. Click YES when prompted to replace the existing files. After which, click and open the flashtool.exe executable file on your computer then go to C:/ flashtool > firmwares. Select the option for ‘delete all the files present’ then click Exit.

Step 3: Once you’re done, download the Official Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware Package for Xperia Neo V from this link. Save the file to your computer. Extract the file to get the .ftf file.

Step 4: On the right side of the flash tool, you will need to match the ST18i_4.1.A.0.562 firmware version to LT18i for Device, Generic for Branding and adsp.sin for File. You also need to check the options for ‘Wipe User Data’, ‘Wipe Cache’ and ‘No Final Verification Check’. After you’ve done so, click OK to begin the firmware update process. You will then be prompted to connect your phone. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5: The process won’t take any longer than 10 minutes to complete. Once done, your phone will automatically reboot. Disconnect your phone from your computer and reboot to normal mode. It could take several minutes for your phone to restart.

That’s it! You may check your phone’s firmware version to confirm. Just go to Settings > About Phone to check your smartphone’s firmware version.
