Win Nokia Lumia 800 Smartphone

You’re probably reading this post because you want to know how to update your HTC Evo Shift 4G smartphone so that it will finally be able to run on Android 4.0.3 ICS. You need not worry though. We are here to guide you.

But before we teach you the steps, keep in mind that you will be flashing an unofficial version of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich known as the Evervolv Kang Build v1.1. Just like most custom ROMs, this build contains a couple of bugs and glitches. You might as well expect some problems related to your phone’s camera, WiMAX, 4G and GPS. Nevertheless, you’ll basically be able to use your handset’s touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Voice Calling, 3G Data, Wi-Fi Tether, DataUsage App and Google Navigation.

And before we forget, we are not liable for any damages that could happen to your phone. Flash at your own risk. We can’t assure that you won’t get your phone bricked. If you still dare to take the risks, read on.

Step 1: Assuming that you have already rooted your HTC Evo Shift 4G handset, download the ICS 4.0.3 Custom ROM Firmware for HTC Evo 4G and download the Google Apps Package. Save both files to your computer. Once done, connect your handset to your computer using a USB data cable then copy the files and save to the root directory of your phone’s SD card. After you have done so, remove your phone from your PC.

Step 2: Enable USB Debugging by going to your phone’s Settings > Applications > Development then check the box next to the USB Debugging option.

Step 3: Turn off your mobile device then boot to recovery mode. To do this, hold the Volume Down key while pressing the Power button. Your phone will be booted to boot loader mode. In boot loader mode, select the option for ‘Recovery’.

Step 4: In recovery mode, select ‘Clear Storage’ to clear all the cached data in your phone. Once done, select ‘Install Zip from sd card’ then ‘Choose Zip from sd card’. Locate and select the Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware. Do the same for the Google Apps file.

Step 5: Wait for at least 10 minutes for the firmware update to be installed. You will then see the screen for recovery mode.

Step 6: Select ‘++++ Go Back ++++’ then choose ‘Reboot System Now’ to reboot your phone. To check whether you have successfully installed the firmware, go to your phone’s Settings > About Phone and then check the Firmware Version.

That’s it! Don’t forget to give credits to Jhuymaier for developing the custom ICS firmware for your HTC Evo Shift 4G.
