It’s been almost a year since the release of HTC’s Droid Incredible 2. Just like what its name stands for, the smartphone is indeed an incredible device that you can use for productivity and entertainment even when you’re not at home. The smartphone was originally launched with Android 2.2 Froyo but HTC did promise a firmware update that will upgrade the device’s OS to Android 4.x ICS. But if you cannot seem to wait for that update, you might as well try updating your phone’s firmware with Android 4.0.3 ICS CyanogenMod 9 Custom ROM. This isn’t the official update that you will be receiving from HTC but what’s good with this is that you don’t need to wait for too long.

But before we begin with the steps, keep in mind that this process will require a rooted HTC Droid Incredible 2 handset. Thus, expect that your handset’s warranty will be voided. Also, we cannot guarantee the outcome of this process. You could get your phone bricked and totally unusable. But if you’re not afraid to take the risks, read on.

Pre-Requisites:

- Rooted HTC Droid Incredible 2 with unlocked bootloader

- The battery level of your handset should not go any lower than 70 percent. This is to make sure that your phone won’t shut down during the update process.

- Create a backup of your phone’s important data such as your images, music, videos, call logs, contacts and SMS messages.

- Enable your phone’s USB Debugging mode by going to Settings > Applications > Development then check the box next to the USB Debugging option.

Follow Each Steps one by one :

Step 1: Download the CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) KANG Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware from this link along with the Google Apps (GApps) Package from this link. Save both files to your computer. After which, connect your handset to your computer via USB data cable. Make sure that you have set your device to mass storage mode.

Step 2: Copy both files then save to the root directory of your phone’s SD card. Do not unzip the files and do not alter any of their filenames and formats.

Step 3: Remove the USB cable from your handset. Turn off your phone then reboot to recovery mode. To do this, simply press the Volume Down key while holding the Power button. Just repeat this step if ever you will be booted to normal mode.

Step 4: In recovery mode, select ‘install zip from sd card’ then ‘choose zip from sd card’. What you’re going to do next is to locate and select the file that you have copied to your phone’s SD card. The file that you will need to find is the CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) KANG Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware. Wait until the installation completes then repeat this step. But instead of the CM9 Firmware, choose the Google Apps (GApps) Package. Again, wait until the installation gets done.

Step 5: After all the files have been installed on your Droid Incredible 2, you will automatically be taken back to the recovery screen. Select ‘++++ Go Back ++++’ then choose ‘reboot system now’ to reboot you phone. If ever your phone won’t restart after 3 to 4 minutes, you will need to remove and reinsert the battery.

That’s all that you need to do to get your HTC Droid Incredible 2 running on CyanogenMod 9 Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
