You’ve already enjoyed the features of your AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777’s official firmware. Now, you are ready to take your Android knowledge to a higher level. To do such, you need to follow a series of steps. Just keep in mind that rooting can void the warranty of your phone. We also could not guarantee that you won’t get your phone bricked and totally unusable. Just don’t hold us liable for any damages that could happen to your phone. If you are not afraid to take the risks, feel free to follow the steps that we have provided below.

The Pre-Requisites:

Just like baking a delicious cookie, you need to provide the necessary ingredients. So if you want a freshly rooted AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 with ClockworkMod Recovery, you have to supply the following requirements:

–> A Windows based Computer (If you’re on Mac, you can borrow your friend’s PC or laptop.)

–> Disable all Anti-Virus and Security suites on your computer. Do the same on your smartphone.

–> Backup all the important data that you’ve stored on your phone. This includes your phone contacts, call logs, photos, music, documents, videos and SMS messages.

–> Check your phone’s battery and make sure that its power level won’t go any lower than 80 percent.

–> Enable your phone’s USB Debugging mode by going to Settings > Applications > Development. Check the box next to the USB Debugging option.

–> Download the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Rooting Package from this link.

–> Make sure that you have the necessary drivers installed. Also, you will need to disable the Samsung KIES program on your computer.

Step 1: On your computer, extract the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Rooting Package to a specific folder. You can use a ZIP extracting client like WINRAR.

Step 2: Turn off your handset. Reboot your handset but instead of booting to normal mode, boot to download mode. Do this by pressing the Volume Down and Volume Up keys while holding the Power button. Again, press the Volume Up key as soon as you see a ‘Warning’ message on your phone’s home screen.

Step 3: On your computer, open the folder where you have extracted your files. Click and launch the Odin3 executable file. Leave the Odin Window open and proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Connect your phone to your computer using a USB data cable. Wait until your phone gets recognized by your computer. You will know this because the ID: COM section in the Odin will change its color to yellow.

Step 5: In the Odin, click on the ‘PDA’ tab. Locate and select the file called “SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar”. Click START.

Step 6: Wait for the update process to complete. You will then see a PASS message which indicates that you have successfully rooted your phone. After which, your phone will automatically reboot and you will see that the ClockworkMod Recovery tool has already been installed.

That’s it! After you have rooted your AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777, you can search for a stable ROM and have it installed on your smartphone.

When I hold the vol up, down, and power I never see a warning screen and it goes into Manual Mode. Do these instructions have to be edited for newer firmware?
