Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 owners can finally be able to taste the new features of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. No need to wait for an official release. Want to know how? Worry not. We’re here to guide you. But first, we would like to remind you that this isn’t the official build. Instead, you’ll be flashing an unofficial alpha build of Android 4.0.3. Just don’t blame us in case something bad happens to your tablet. You have to know that flashing an unofficial ROM in your device is quite risky.
Furthermore, do expect that this alpha build is quite buggy. Thus, you won’t be able to use your camera, YouTube HD videos, Google Voice Search and you can’t even connect via 3G. But you’ll somehow manage as long as you have your Wi-Fi ready. Almost set? Be sure that you have a rooted Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet with ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step 1: Download the Android 4.0.3 ICS update pack for Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. Save to your computer.
Step 2: Download the Google Apps (gapps) pack for Galaxy Tab 8.9. Save to your computer.
Step 3: Using a USB data cable, connect your slate to your computer.
Step 4: Copy both ZIP files that you have download from Step 1 and Step 2 then save to your tablet’s SD card.
Step 5: Disconnect the tablet from your computer.
Step 6: Run the ROM Manager on your tablet then select “Reboot to Recovery” to reboot your slate to ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step 7: In the Recovery Menu, select “wipe data / factory reset”. Under Advanced, select “Wipe Dalvik Cache” then “Wipe Cache”.
Step 8: Select “Install Zip from sd card” then “Choose ZIP from sd card”. Locate and select the ICS update file. Repeat this step for the Google Apps ZIP file.
Step 9: In the Main Menu, choose “Reboot System Now”.
Step 10: Once your tablet has been rebooted, set up your Google Account.
Step 11: Download and install your preferred CPU Control app and set it to “interactive governor”.
That’s it! Enjoy the new features of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
