Amazon seems to be taking good care of its Kindle Fire. Thus, if you happen to own one, your slate will be constantly updated to the latest firmware version. But if you can’t wait for the official update and you are very eager to taste the new features of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, we are here to guide you through.
But before we proceed to the actual steps, you should know that you might encounter some problems with your Wi-Fi, Accelerometer and Light Sensor. Even so, your tablet’s touch panel, hardware graphics and audio will work fine. Also, keep in mind that you must have a rooted Kindle Fire and your slate’s battery must not go lower than 60 percent. Furthermore, this process is quite risky because there is no way for you to revert back to your stock firmware. Thus, upgrade your slate at your own risk. If you are brave enough to proceed, read on.
Step 1: Download the ICS 4.0.3 Beta Build at this link and save to your computer.
Step 2: Connect your Amazon Kindle Fire to your computer using your slate’s original USB data cable. Transfer the file to the root of your slate’s internal storage.
Step 3: Disconnect your tablet from your computer.
Step 4: Turn off your slate. After which, turn ON your Kindle Fire normally and wait until you get to see a Yellow triangle on the display. Press and hold the Power button until you get to boot your tablet into TWRP mode.
Step 5: In TWRP mode, select the options for data factory reset, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache.
Step 6: Select “Install” and choose the file that you have downloaded from the first step. Once done, select “Flash” to flash the ICS firmware.
Step 7: Wait until the whole process completes. After that, you will be brought back to your tablet’s recovery mode screen.
Step 8: In Recovery Mode, select “Reboot System Now” to reboot your Kindle Fire. After reboot, you will then see that your tablet has been successfully upgraded to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
