Google Releases Android Design Guidelines For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)

Matias Duarte, Google’s Director for Android User Experience, announced that Android Developers can now be able to enhance the way that they design their apps thanks to a newly launched Android OS Design Guide. Unlike before, developers today can refer to a complete and comprehensive guide that will aid in the creation of fluid and neat-looking apps.

Android Design Guidelines

It can’t be denied that there are a lot of apps that doesn’t seem to complement your phone’s theme or style. There are even times that you get to download a particular app and you just can’t seem to figure out why it doesn’t match your phone’s screen resolution. Thus, with the Android OS Design Guide, developers will be able to know the standards that they should follow upon designing an app or particular custom UI. Every element is important and it is a must that one should be aware of how each element is going to be applied.

Given the fact that there’s a diversity of Android smartphones, we do feel that Google did make the right choice. Of course, it is expected that the guidelines being stated in the Design Guide will be updated or altered in due course. For now, the guide is based on Android Ice Cream Sandwich and if you get to take a look at its important elements, you will be able to know why developers should pay close attention to their app’s themes, fonts, patterns and colors.

The Android Design Guide is intended for Android developers and advanced Android users. It’s very comprehensive and fully-packed with illustrations. Furthermore, we believe that this is the start of a more enhanced Android user experience. At least now, you don’t have to get stuck with apps that give you nothing but an eyesore. If ever you have some free time, you can take a sneak peak of the Android OS Design Guide by simply going to developer.android.com/design.
