Don’t you think that it’s about time for camera makers to embrace the fact that they need to innovate in order to compete to the ever-growing population of smartphones? Come to think of it, a lot of you would prefer to buy a phone with a built-in 8MP camera over a conventional snapper. Speaking of which, Polaroid announced that it will be releasing its newest model of smart camera that will be called as the Polaroid SC1630.
Unlike any other standard digital snappers, the Polaroid SC1630 Smart Camera runs on Android. It is equipped with a 3.2 inch widescreen display alongside with its Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and optional cellular data connections. What does that mean? Just imagine that you have a camera that you can use to make calls. You can even go to the Android Market in case you want to add some of your favorite applications. The concept may sound unique but it is somewhat a modified version of what we now call as camera phones.
With the Polaroid SC1630 Smart Camera, you can capture a variety of images and videos. The camera flaunts a 16 mega pixel CCD sensor with 3x optical zoom and you can even choose among its 18 scene modes. Moreover, images will be captured at 36mm or at full 108mm of magnification. And if ever you feel like sharing your treasured moments to your online friends, you can easily do so. All that you need to do is to capture your favorite scenes and share it online in just a click of button. You can even tag and edit your images right within your Android-powered Polaroid SC1630.
As of now, the smart camera is being exhibited at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. If you want to get one, the camera will most likely be sold for 299 US Dollars. It will most likely be made available sometime within April 2012.
