The Asus Eee Pad Transformers Prime is a tablet that most consumers dont know about and they end up going for the iPad without much knowledge on the iPad alternatives. The primary reason for this happening is because of the lack of marketing Asus does for its products and the massive amounts of marketing Apple does for theirs! Because of the lawsuit Hasbro has over ASUS for using the name “Transformer”, the US launch have been extended, but nevertheless it will be here! So be prepared to read the comparison between the most successful tablet of all time and the first of its kind tablet.
Before we start off the comparison, we would like you to note that there would not be a clear winner to this as the iPad and the Transformer Prime are two very different laptops, which has its own reasons to be bought. All we ask is to keep an open mind and not go for the buy just because Apple has more brand value. So, here we go!
Design:
Unlike the Xyboard 10.1, the Asus Transformer Prime does indeed look good. So the Asus tablet has a better chance of convincing the design minded customers to buy the Asus instead of the Apple than the Droid Xyboard. The iPad 2 features a classy and elegant design that even the Transformer Prime cannot outshine, but the Transformer Prime is not so far behind with its well shaped tablet and metallic rear. How much ever i describe both these laptops, in the end its your eye which has to decide amongst the two.The Transformer Prime is however thinner, bigger and lighter than the iPad.
When it comes to the screen, the Transformer Prime might be the only device that can take on the iPad 2 and not lose to battle to the mass of consumers. The Apple iPad 2 comes with an LED-backlit IPS TFT, capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels whereas the Transformer Prime comes with a Super IPS+ LCD, capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and features a higher pixel density than that of the iPad screen,
Hardware Specs:
This is one aspect where the Transformer Prime will literally dump the iPad into a dustbin! Actually, this is one aspect where the Transformer Prime smothers any other tablet when compared to it. The Apple iPad comes with a dual core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor with Apple A5 chipset and is paired with a 512 MB RAM. The Asus Transformer Prime on the other hand comes with a quad core 1.3 GHz Cortex A9 processor with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset. This processor is paired with a whole 1 GB of RAM. The specs clearly tells you which one is the winner and which one is not and this is one aspect where you cannot be biased to one particular device.
The Asus Transformer Prime is however not a GSM device, so it will not work on any GSM networks like 2G, 3G and 4G. This is one place where the iPad wins as it supports 2G and 3G along with Wifi and bluetooth connectivity. The Prime however does come with WiFi and bluetooth connectivity. The Prime’s screen is a corning gorilla glass which protects the screen from scratches and impact situations.
Storage & Battery:
The iPad 2 comes with 3 storage options, which is the 16 GB, 32 GB and the 64 GB storage options. Sadly, Apple does not provide the option for you to extend your memory with the help of an external source like an SD card or a microSD card. The Transformer Prime on the other hand comes only in 2 storage options, the 32 GB and the 64 GB. But thankfully, the Prime comes with a microSD card slot via which you can extend your memory upto 32 GB.
The battery life for the iPad 2 was claimed to be exceptional and provided over 10 hours of vigourous usage. This was achieved by a Li-Po 6930 mAh (25 Wh) battery. The Transformer Prime on the other hand also gives an excellent battery record of more than 10 hours with heavy usage. The Eee Pad that comes along with it also contain a battery and when that battery is connected, the energy from the Eee pad gets fed onto the tablet, hence extending the hours of usage upto 18 hours. Brilliant right?
Camera, Operating System & Price:
The Apple tablet comes with a pretty decent camera of 1.3 MP at the rear and only a 0.3 MP camera in the front. Camera performance was nothing great when we compared it to the ASUS\ technologically engineered 8 MP camera with autofocus and flash at the back while the front feature as pretty good 1.2 MP camera with which you can seemelessly and clearly do video calls.
The Apple iPad comes with an iOS 4, which can be easily upgraded to the iOS 5 for free and the Asus Transformer Prime comes with the Android Honeycomb 3.2, which is speculated to be upgraded to the Android 4.0, i.e the Ice Cream Sandwich. It really depends on which operating system you are in love with. It would help if you chose the iPad if your entire family uses Apple products or if you have other Apple products.
In the US, the Apple iPad 2 (WiFi model) costs about $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the 32GB model, $699 for the 64GB model. The Transformer Prime on the other hand, is priced at $499 for the 32 GB one and the $599 for the 64 GB model.
Conclusion:
The specs clearly states that the Transformer Prime is a better tablet among the two. But deciding on a laptop doesnt have to be based on specs! If you are more comfortable with the iOS and enjoy the large app selection, then you should go ahead with the iPad. If you have a whole other bunch of Apple devices, then it will be easier for you to connect to these devices and share information without much hassle. The prices of the Transformer Prime is certainly cheaper relatively and also, you get 8GB of free cloud computing services! The Transformer Prime is just one heck of an awesome tablet and i would recommend this to anyone taking a look to buy the iPad or any other latpop.

There is a mistake in your conclusion. There are as many applications under Android than on Ios, maybe even more on android actually. So, for somebody who wants a lot of application, the Asus is propably a better choice.
That is actually false. The Apple app store indeed has more applications than the Android. The Android app market only has higher downloads than Apple because of number of Android phones that are sold. But the Apples app store still leads on the number of apps and also, developers still prefer developing for iOS first rather than Android.
Yes you are right. Another thing is that a huge chunk of the apps on the Android Market are not really worth the purchase. Meanwhile, a lot of good apps are found on the Apple App Store.
Apple is for retards… plain and simple.
