Asus launched the new software update for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime prior to its scheduled launch date that was Jan 12. The announcement was made by Asus in the CES 2012 at Las Vegas on Jan 9, which was three days before the scheduled date, along with the announcement of the new Prime version. Prime owners will soon get an on air update about the availability of the new Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich available for update on their Transformer primes. This would make the Transformer Prime the first tablet to run Ice Cream Sandwich OS on it. If the users have not already got the update then they might have to wait for a day or two.
The first thing that will be noticed in the updated slate was how the ICS got the new font, Roboto that came up on the lock screen. The date and time are displayed more clearly and the lock circle has a fresh new look. The change of font was expected and was a minor change but still it gave a new young look to the tablet. The changes on the user face were small but visible underneath the lock screen. Some small changes were a light and a teal glow under the navigation button.
The older swipe to close feature that was not very efficient as the fingers missed to hit the tiny ’x’ has now been improved and the swipe is more efficient. On the previous Honeycomb platform the homepage would take around 10 to 20 seconds to load on a 10 Mbps connection, but on this newer Ice Cream sandwich platform, it was completely loaded in around 6 seconds. The entire browsing experience is quicker and flickering has been reduced while scrolling through long pages.
