Archos G9 Tablets Confirms Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich Update in Q1 of 2012


Archos G9 tablet owners should celebrate! That’s because Archos has officially confirmed that it will be upgrading its G9 slates to Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime within the first quarter of 2012. No specific date of release has been announced yet but the said Consumer Electronics Company did note that the update will be rolled out to its 80 G9 and 101 G9 models.

In addition, the company also stated that they are still working on the update’s hardware acceleration for video support and that they also need to polish some other specific features aside from the ones related to Android.

The Archos 80 G9 and the Archos 101 G9 are both powered by Google’s Android 3.2 Honeycomb platform. Dubbed as the company’s third-generation of Android tablets, the 80 G9 and the 101 G9 can somehow compete against the leading slates in the market.

And speaking of which, the Archos 80 G9 can take pride of its 8 inch multi-touch capacitive display aside from its 1024 x 768 pixels of screen resolution. The tablet runs on an OMAP 4 smart multi core 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 Processor and it flaunts its 250GB of hard drive storage, 8GB or 16GB of Flash Memory, Micro SD slot, 720p front camera, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi Connectivity, Built-in GPS, Compass and G-Sensor. Meanwhile, the Archos 101 G9 tablet sports a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 pixels multi-touch capacitive display alongside with its 1GHz of OMAP 4 smart multi core ARM Cortex A9 processor. The slate supports 3D OpenGL and is equipped with 250GB of hard drive storage, 8GB – 16GB of Flash Memory, Micro SD card slot, up to 1080p of video playback, 720p front facing camera, HDMI output, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, built-in speakers, mic, compass, built-in GPS and G-Sensor.

The 8GB model of Archos 80 G9 can be purchased for $299.99 while the 8GB model of the Archos 101 G9 can be yours for $369.99.
